Our Story

Welcome to Veiled Riches!

We’re Jim and Sandy, passionate lapidarists living in the beautiful Atherton Tablelands of Far North Queensland. Our journey into the world of gemstones began in 2008 while working in Forsayth, where we stumbled upon the wonders of Agate Creek. A camping trip turned into a treasure hunt, and we returned home with buckets of rocks—eager and excited. Joining the local lapidary club, we were amused to learn that much of our haul was affectionately dubbed “leaverite” or “chuckite.” But hidden among the rubble were stunning agates, their vibrant patterns revealed through cutting. That moment sealed our fate—we were officially rockhounds.

From those early days, we immersed ourselves in the craft, learning cabbing, faceting, and basic silversmithing. Over time, our skills expanded to include goldsmithing, lost wax casting, mold making, wax injection, and enamelling. We’re always experimenting with new techniques and equipment, and we love growing our collection through fossicking adventures and shed sales.

For us, the greatest joy lies in discovering raw materials and unlocking their hidden beauty. There’s something deeply satisfying about finding a stone in nature, shaping it, polishing it, and crafting a setting to showcase its natural brilliance.

We’re proud to source all our materials legally and ethically, and we’re passionate about sharing our knowledge with fellow rockhounds who share our love for the earth’s hidden treasures.

Whether you’re a fellow rockhound, a collector, or simply curious, we invite you to explore our creations and share in the joy of the lapidary world. Every stone has a story. Let us help you uncover it.
